Transplant + 20

Happy Thanksgiving Day everyone!  It is a odd feeling to spend the day in the hospital having to forgo family gatherings.  We were unable to have some of the kids come to visit because of children's illnesses.  Missed my grandson Lucas's birthday.  Was able to Skype with him and sing happy birthday to him.

Watched/listened to online service from Trinity URC in Lethbridge.  My meal was delivered, albeit mixed up, and as we listened to Rev. Oord begin his sermon talking about things we look forward to at Thanksgiving, food being a big part of that, I am trying not to gag over what I am supposed to eat.  Barb seen the humour in that. The point of the sermon being that of contentment and trust in God's care leads to constant Thanksgiving.  Some days that is bit of a struggle, today being one, yet we have so much to be thankful for!!

The Neupogen shot seems to have accelerated the process.  WBC count was at 1 today, platelets moved to 12 and hemoglobin moved up to 101.  Received another shot today, and will find out tomorrow how long they expect to do that.  My doctor was more interested in bilirubin numbers which shot up, and creatinine levels from my kidneys, which is a new issue.  So liver function, and now kidney function, are front and center as well.  They have put me on IV fluid to increase my intake/output which he hopes will help the kidneys.  I am always trying to drink more, doing 2 litres by mouth every day plus fluids in IV's.  Halls were empty today, so my doctor allowed me to go for a walk, masked and disinfecting constantly.  Felt good to stretch the legs a bit.  Losing tone and strength for sure.

I will write out a few verses of Psalm 145, but it deserves a full reading.
Psalm 145:1-3,8,9,18-21 ESV
I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable.

The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love
The LORD is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made.

The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
he also hears their cry and saves them.
The LORD preserves all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD,
and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

Prayer requests.
1. Thanksgiving to God for His care the last month, for positive signs, for daily rest in Him and His promises,
and for the strong support we receive from family, friends, and the greater Body of Christ.
2. That the Lord will grant good health and healing to my liver and kidneys.
3. Continued blessings on engraftment process.
4. For strength and encouragement for Barb and the rest of the family as well.

That was our family last year...stuck in the hospital on Thanksgiving Day. But I look at Julie now and am amazed at far she's come. Just you wait til next Thanksgiving, and we hope and pray you'll be amazed at how far you've come as well. As always, you and Barb remain in our prayers.

Hi Richard,
We were thinking of you today and you are in our prayers. We are thankful for your encouragement through your blog. It seems backwards but I think that your blog is more of a blessing to us. Happy to hear that things are happening in a positive direction. Continued prayers for you, Barb and the family.
Love, Ivan & Diana.

Hi Richard, we just came back from Bon Echo Provincial Park. I believe you and your family have spent some time there in the past. Still beautiful as ever and now especially with the beautiful fall colors. Wow! Barb's photography skills would have had a hay-day. But what is more beautiful is to hear that there is evidence of engraftment for you. Praise the Lord! That is awesome! I was thinking as we were admiring Lord's mere reflection of His glory in creation and how awesome that is, then look at what He does in our own lives. He has especially put His hand on us for His eternal purpose and calls us by name. This same God has knit us together and continues to sustain and nurture with healing, if if pleases Him, with life for His glory. And maybe it's not our outward and physical appearance that is flourishing and beautiful, but that inwardly we are being renewed by Him each and every day and is achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs the trials in this life. (IICor. 4:7-18) That's the real beauty, isn't it. We continue to pray for you and the family.
