Transplant +6

It is good to be well enough again to sit and write a blog post!  Yesterday was quite a day, a very busy hospital room.  Barb was with me all day, but I was in bed drifting in and out of sleep with fever.  I make it my practice since I have been in, to get out of my bed and not go back in until bed time.  But yesterday I got up, ate a little breakfast, then crawled back in.  The fever had hit, so blood cultures, various other tests and onto broad spectrum antibiotics.  I needed blood transfusions and platelets as well.  Because of the fever they had to run them in real slow and monitor me closely.  In the evening when the platelets started, I reacted with a spike in temperature so they had to stop, do some more tests, give me some other meds and then run them again.

During the night my fever went down and today I have been running a fairly steady temp.  The blood cultures are showing growth so they know I have a blood infection, but not the specific bacteria.  They will be keeping me on a heavy dose of antibiotics for minimum two weeks to fight this infection since I can't fight it otherwise, and make sure they get it cleaned up before my new system has to do it alone.  It will be a new system, but like little children, I will  get sick easily, so extra precautions have to be made.   I needed blood and platelets again today too.  This 3 days in a row for blood and 4 for platelets.  They said the infection does not help to try to get my numbers stabilized.   I do have jaundice now.  My liver is working properly according to their tests so they think it may be chemo/medicine related.  I have been on meds since I arrived to protect my liver and kidneys, so I believe it is  not an unfamiliar issue.

So a "quieter" day in here.  Barb was here early and left early afternoon.  I am reading the Christian Renewal starting at page 1.  Good reading in there folks!!  When my transfusions were done I was able to listen to last  Sunday morning's worship service at Providence United Reformed Church.  Only 3 interruptions.  Have skyped with some of my kids today, hope to do more yet tonight.  A good day!

Prayer requests:
1.  Give thanks with us that the fever is down and the meds are working on the infection!!
2.  Give thanks that we were able to say yesterday "Our Lord is with us"
3.  Give thanks that today despite all the uncertainties our God has blessed us with peace of heart, peace of mind, a true rest in Him.
4.  That the engraftment process is progressing as expected.
5.  That the infection will be defeated.
6.  That my liver function will stay strong.
7.  Watch over my family in their every need.

Psalm 17:7a
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;

Thank you again for the update and what a blessing that you could do that yourself again, because you were feeling somewhat better. We had a beautiful sermon yesterday morning on Psalm 27, which is also your confession. The opening verses : "The LORD is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear?" and then the closing verse: "Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD"

HI Ron & Laura Here in Ottawa, my Dad sent us blog site yesterday... God is loving, kind and powerful. He is with you and yours. His purposes and plans are above ours. May God continue to bless you and yours. Thanks for your example. God does answer prayer and give good gifts. Our prayers are with you.

We knew the fever was imminent, yet when we read that you had actually become feverish it is still rather concerning. Your self-dicipline in terms of getting up in the morning and staying up until bedtime is commendable! (Somedays I have the opposite-my goal is to try to crawl back in at my earliest opportunity-but that never seems to happen!) :)
You remain on our hearts and on our lips. May the doctors and nurses receive all they need as they puzzle out which med to prescribe for whatever new glitch has them switching from one to the other. Sounds like never a dull moment over there. Wishing you much strength as you continue to fight off this unknown infection and also to your family as the toll of living in this concerning time begins to wear them down. You are all in our prayers.
