Transplant 2 Day 27

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!  After a discouraging day and a tough night battling fever and discomfort, we were blessed with a good blood report this morning!  My white blood cells have finally gone up from <0.5 to 0.5.  While this is the tiniest of increments, it is the first positive sign of engraftment!  Our hope is renewed and we are encouraged in this daily fight.

True, full engraftment takes a very long time and this is just the first tiny step.  But we are so incredibly thankful for a step in the right direction!  We pray that tomorrow's blood numbers will continue this pattern of improvement, that we can see that the stem cells are truly finding a home in my bones and settling in, that they can start making blood and building my new immune system.  After a long month here, this tiny sign is a real blessing from our Lord's hand.  We thank God for His tender mercies!

It has also made dealing with the difficulties of today a bit easier.  While the chest pain I experienced yesterday is still here, it has lessened some.  The doctors are still not sure of what the root cause is, though I have been placed back on IV antibiotics.  I spiked with fever again during the night and throughout the day today.  We are thankful for some relief and continue to hope for a better sleep tonight and improvement in the morning.

Prayer Requests
1. Give thanks with us for the first signs of engraftment!  Praise God for His tender mercies shown to us.
2. For relief from fever, pain, and discomfort.
3. For continued signs of engraftment each day.
4. For strength, trust, peace, and patience for the long road yet ahead.

"Because of the LORD's great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning!  Great is Your faithfulness!" Lamentations 3:22-23

Thank you Lord for hearing the prayers of Your children. So happy to hear this bit of good news.

Richard, can you please share the title of the Spurgeon book that you often quote from.

Thank you for your blog - many have been encouraged and inspired by it and given the opportunity to hold you and your family in prayer. It was passed on to me by Frieda Vanderwerf - my cousins wife.
Continuing to hold you in prayer
